Motivational Narrative

So. As my last post states...it is 2011. & my posts are going to be a bit different.
Recently someone challenged me to write a motivational narrative to someone that I cared about....
This is the result.

Be Your Best

First off...to be your best, you must do your best, and in order to do your best, YOU MUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.

Because your best is as only as good as you are.

Once you believe in yourself, you should do something new...
try new things.

ANYTHING!

Baking that new dish you've been craving
or mastering that wild fashion trend
(no matter how scary it may seem)...

Honestly, it can be anyting :)

Just remember...your best is as only as good as you are <3

Trying something new may seem scary but as long as you do it to the best of your ability.....NOTHING can stop you.

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Best.
Why do I keep using the word best?

Because...your best is as only as good as you are.

One other thing.
Don't form yourself around  the expectations of others....
create your own expectations based on you being your....

BEST!
There is that word again...best.

Well, as far as I'm concerned...

I hope the word BEST haunts you for the rest of your life :)

Every time you look in the mirror, that word should come to your thoughts.
Because….
Your best is as only as good as you are J

ALWAYS BE YOUR BEST!

Dedicated to my loving sister, Rabecca, who never gives herself the credit she deserves.

January 1st-Discussion: Pride & Prejudice

Wow....Can anyone believe that it is already 2011?
Well...
I CAN!
 <3

This discussion is going far better than planned.
I love getting messages about the book from my followers :)

As you all know...last Saturday was Christmas, and there was no discussion, so this week we have to do just a bit of catching up :)

I assigned chapters 13 through 25, before realizing my mistake. Silly Me.

The first part  of Pride and Prejudice ends with
Chapter 23...not Chapter 25.

Good news for some: This weeks discussion is Chapters 13-23 :)

Starting at Chapter 13...

Back at Longbourn (the Bennet home), Mr. Collins arrives for a visit. As Mr. Bennet’s closest male relative, Mr. Collins will inherit the estate after Mr. Bennet’s death. Mr. Collins has decided the nice thing to do is to marry one of the Bennet girls in order to preserve their home. It looks like he has his sights set on Elizabeth, but did we mention that he’s a complete fool and worships his boss (a certain Lady Catherine)? It’s clear that Elizabeth finds him repulsive.

As for the two youngest Bennet sisters, the militia has arrived in town and they’re ready to throw themselves at any officers who wander their way. They meet a charming young man named Mr. Wickham, who rapidly befriends Elizabeth. Wickham tells Elizabeth a sob story about how all of his life opportunities were destroyed by Mr. Darcy, convincing her that Darcy is Evil Personified. Elizabeth readily believes Wickham’s story, and also learns that Lady Catherine (Mr. Collins’s boss) is Mr. Darcy’s aunt.

(Such Drama!!!!)The next day, all the Bennet girls are invited to a ball at Netherfield (a.k.a. Mr. Bingley’s mansion). Elizabeth is excited about possibly dancing with Wickham, and also excited to see Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham confront each other. At the ball, Wickham is absent but Darcy asks Elizabeth to dance. So does Mr. Collins, whose dancing style is grotesquely embarrassing to Elizabeth. The rest of Elizabeth’s family is no better: Mrs. Bennet brags to everyone that Bingley will likely propose to Jane, Mary shows off her non-existent musical talent, and Lydia and Kitty are embarrassingly flirty with the military officers.

The following morning, Mr. Collins proposes to Elizabeth, who practically has to beat him over the head before he believes her adamant refusal. We don’t feel too bad for Mr. Collins because Elizabeth’s friend, Charlotte Lucas, pretends to play wingman but is really hunting for a proposal of her own. Mr. Collins does indeed step up, and Charlotte accepts. Elizabeth is shocked when she learns of their engagement. She has difficulty believing that Charlotte’s good sense would allow her to marry such a ridiculous man. Charlotte explains, however, that she’s a spinster with no prospects, and she’d rather have her own home than live with her parents forever. Basically, beggars can’t be choosers.
Chapter 23-Key Points
  • Sir William Lucas announces Charlotte’s engagement.
  • Mrs. Bennet is incensed. It takes her many months to forgive and cease being rude to the Lucases.
  • Lady Lucas finds it irresistible to gloat, however, and she starts calling on the Bennets more frequently to talk about how happy she is to have her daughter settled.
  • Day after day passes without hearing from Mr. Bingley. The girls, especially Jane, grow more uncomfortable about it. The only news they hear is that he will not be returning to Netherfield that winter.
  • Mrs. Bennet resents Charlotte, imagining that she plans to kick Mrs. Bennet and the girls out of the house as soon as Mr. Bennet dies. She claims she would not mind the match at all if it weren’t for the "entail," by which she means the fact that the house will go to Mr. Collins and his wife upon Mr. Bennet’s death.

This was definitely a short summary :)

Within these chapters, new characters are introduced and they play a major part in the novel.

Mr. Wickham:

Wickham is, essentially, a Grade A jerk. Worse, he hides it well. On the outside, Wickham is a very pleasant young man, but it’s all a mask disguising his fortune-hunting, immoral, and deceptive ways. He preys on young women with money, and mooches off of every wealthy connection possible. His lovely manners and easy-going nature, however, fool Elizabeth (and everyone else in town) into believing that he's a good man whom Mr. Darcy has cheated out of wealth and a career.

Mr.Collins:
Mr. Collins is full of himself. He alternates between completely sucking up and completely sticking his nose in the air. His obsession with his benefactress, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, is absurd. And let’s not even talk about his terrible dancing. However, Mr. Collins isn’t vicious or manipulating like Mr. Wickham, he just isn’t the kind of guy you want the heroine to marry.

Lady Catherine de Bourgh:

Lady Catherine is an over-bearing control freak whose wealth, title, and sheer force of will typically get her what she wants. We have to give Lady Catherine some credit for being just as strong-willed and stubborn as Elizabeth, even though her attitude to the lower classes is seriously snobby.

My discussion question for you to think about is....

Out of these 3 new characters which one do you belive to be the worst (so far)?

I might as well share my opinion. :)

Mr. Collins is a sissy, but he's not the worst. Lady Catherine is very stubborn and rude, but she is definitely not the worst.
I know we haven't gotten far enough in the novel to know all that much about Lady Catherine, but don't worry....we will.

Mr. Wickham, in my opinion, is by far the worst of all these new charcters.  He comes between Mr.Darcy and Elizabeth and I really wish he would just go jump off a cliff or something :)
He tries to convince her of things that are not true and makes Darcy look like the "bad guy." Anyone who stands in the way of two people who like each other (even if they are fictional) deserves to suffer :)

You'll see what happens!
I can't wait!

Now that you know my opinion, I would love fot you to share yours with me.

.............................................................

Our next discussion will be this coming Saturday.
Since it is the start of a new section of the book, we might as well take it a little slow.

There are 19 chapters in Part 2 and 19 Chapters in Part 3.
Which is 38 Chapters! :)
YEAH!!!!

Ther are 5 Saturdays in January, and now we only have 4 left.
If we want to get this book finished, we should discuss chapters 1-8.
I know some of you like to know in advanced what the discussion will be, and this is my plan :)

January 8 -Part Two. Chapters 1-8
January 15 -Part Two. Chapters 9-19
January 22 -Part Three. Chapters 1-8
January 29-Part Three. Chapters 9-19

Keep Reading! Only 4 more weeks! :)

Baking :)

Meaningful Monday-December 26th 2010

So about 1 hour ago I decided to bake a spice cake with buttercream icing :))))
YUMMY!

As you know baking is meaningful to me in many ways!

1. I love to bake....therefore it always puts a smile on my face :)
2. Other people love to eat....therefore it puts a smile on their faces too.
3. People make me angry and I take my anger out on people through baking <3

Now seriously, I only have 5 minutes until my cake is done :)))

I hope you can think of things on Mondays that are meaningful to you too.

Meaningful Monday/Talkative Tuesday---Christmas!

Yes. This is a combined Meaningful Monday & Talkative Tuesday :)
Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, and I couldn't wait until the 25th to post about it.

For my Meaningful Monday....I wanted to talk about my dad and what he does on Christmas.

After going to my grandparent's house on Christmas Eve, ( which consists of reading the Christmas story, eating, and of course...opening gifts) that evening we come back home and sit in our living room. We sit there waiting for dad to tell us whether or not we are going to open gifts now or wait until tomorrow. &&& We always  know what the answer is :) We take our time putting the other gifts away and dad starts handing out the other Christmas gifts from under the tree.  We each take a turn opening a gift (Mom opens a gift, Ronnie opens a gift, Becca opens a gift,  and so on...) and by the time we are done opening all the gifts, it has probably taken over two hours. Now, I asked my dad one time, "Why do you make us open our gifts one at a time?" He told me we open gifts that way to make it seem like we are getting a lot of presents even though we aren't.
The truth is, it doesn't matter how many gifts we get on Christmas or who gave them to us....but why we give gifts is what is important!

I love the Christmas season sooo much, and I hope you guys enjoy your Christmas this year also!

Now, for Talkative Tuesday...

Somehow, not only for Christmas,
But all the long year through,
The joy that you give to others,
Is the joy that comes back to you.
And the more you spend in blessing,
The poor and lonely and sad,
The more of your heart's possessing,
Returns to you glad.
John Greenleaf Whittier

Giving is more important then receiving!
Most of you should already know that :)
I love Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all my followers! <3

Pride & Prejudice: Discussion, Chapters 11 & 12 & NEW CHAPTERS!

So, short and sweet...here are key points from chapters 11 & 12 :) ENJOY!

Chapter Eleven

  • That night after dinner, Jane is well enough to come down for a few hours. Mr. Bingley is so glad to see her, he hardly pays attention to anybody else.
  • Miss Bingley tries to keep Mr. Darcy’s attention and fails. She pouts about Mr. Bingley’s plan to give a ball at Netherfield – balls are so boring when the people who attend are so beneath you – but she fails to dissuade him from the idea.
  • Miss Bingley asks Elizabeth to parade up and down the room with her. She wants to show off her fine figure to Mr. Darcy.
  • When Miss Bingley asks Mr. Darcy to join them in walking up and down the room, he refuses, saying that would ruin her reason for walking back and forth – that is, she is either sharing gossipy secrets with Elizabeth or they realize that their figures look best when they are walking about and are trying to get attention. How could he possibly notice their fine figures if he joined them?
  • Much to Miss Bingley’s disgust, the conversation soon grows into banter between Darcy and Elizabeth. She tells him his main fault is his inclination to hate everybody; her defect, he tells her, is to intentionally misunderstand them.

Chapter Twelve

  • Elizabeth is anxious to get back home; she is afraid they are overstaying their welcome. Yet her mother is anxious for them to remain, hoping that the longer Jane is at Netherfield, the greater the chances are of a proposal from Mr. Bingley. To this end, she refuses to send a carriage to bring her daughters home.
  • Elizabeth and Jane ask if the Bingleys will send them home in their carriage. They are induced to stay for one more day, for the sake of Jane’s health, and then they will be allowed to go home.
  • We learn that Miss Bingley likes Jane, but she is jealous of Elizabeth.
  • Knowing that he only has to control his passion for one more day, Darcy avoids Elizabeth like she has cooties. Or the plague. When they’re left alone for a half-hour in the study, he pretends to be absorbed in his book.
  • The next day, Mr. Darcy is glad to see them go. He is too attracted to Elizabeth and Miss Bingley teases him too much about the young lady for his comfort, especially since there is some real truth in her teasing.

So.....these chapters were very easy to follow.
As you know, Darcy and Elizabeth are starting to become attracted to each other and it happens to have a great impact on more than just the two of them.
Some people are jealous, and others are overjoyed.
While others don't even realize that it is happening.

The one question I wanted to ask, is......

Do you truly think that Darcy & Elizabeth deserve each other? The way that they act can sometimes be seen as rude or at times  prideful......{Pride & Prejudice} *cough cough :)
I don't want comments answering this question, I just want you to think about it as you read the novel.

Anyway, this discussion, was mostly just a catch up discussion for those of you who have not been able to follow along with the rest of us, and since this week has been a slow one, I'm going to go ahead and assign the next chapters! :D

So, next week is Christmas, but I'll still be posting!

We should read chapters 13-20.
I know! I know! 8 Chapters is too many!
But, the story moves along at a good pace and
I don't want us to get too far behind.

This book is going to take much more than 1 month to read, but I hope not more than 2 months! :)

I love this book, hopefully you'll love it too <3
